Social Networking

Our digital infrastructure is rapidly expanding. Our lives have become intertwined with technology, and the amount of information we access on the internet daily is ever growing. The infographic visualizes some of the top websites based on their amount of users; a very cool way to think about websites and the internet. Facebook recently hit 500 million users, thanks to more and more people going online, and becoming socially connected. That's in interesting thought: In order to be properly "social," one must be connected to the internet. Facebook, Myspace, Twitter. These have become social venues, a new type of social venue, in which people can remain connected with others during their down time, work, class, etc. It's truly a marvelous wonder.

  1. It is crazy how much technology has grown- I mean, we're blogging right now for a class. The funny thing is many people consider social networking sites to be anti-social in nature. It's replaced face to face communication, but if that's what "social" is these days then more and more people will adjust.

  2. I think we've become more advance in the last decade than the last century. Now a days everything revolves around technology and if something hasn't been touched up by some sort of technology then be sure that the time will come. I personally can't live without my phone and back then i was the type that said, i dont know no stinking phone. if someone needs me then they can come over or call the house phone. Funny how things turned out over time.

  3. Personally, I think the lack of face to face communication is somewhat troubling. Some families barely even eat dinner together anymore. However, that is not to say that social networking sites are all bad. Facebook has been a godsend for keeping up with my high school friends who are spread halfway across the country. Still, I prefer face-to-face contact, rather than status posts and chat rooms.
